The Nave and Great Lawn

The grounds immediately surrounding the Shepherd offer over 3.5 acres of new, publicly accessible community destinations and green space.

About The Nave and Great Lawn

Designed by Simon David, Principal & Creative Director of Office of Strategy + Design (OSD), the campus grounds have transformed existing parking lots, alleyways and vacant lots into an interlocking series of outdoor destinations while adapting to existing buildings. The center-piece of OSD’s design is a community promenade dubbed the Nave, formerly a desolate alley that now connects the Shepherd with the surrounding neighborhood.

“By transforming this vacant block into an open and accessible arts campus, new life is emerging in a previously unused gap in the city fabric, like flowers sprouting through the pavement,” said Simon David, OSD.

Up Next: Art Altars

Two art altars reside in the centerpoint between the Shepherd and BridgeHouse, dedicated to showcasing art installations and other community programs.
